The Jeep Commander, produced by Jeep from 2006 to 2010, was a mid-sized SUV designed for robust off-road capability and a family-friendly three-row seating layout. Its distinctive appearance included a seven-slot grille, squared-off edges, and a flat roof, all of which were evocative of the vintage Jeep Cherokee XJ. The vehicle was designed to accommodate up to seven passengers, thanks to the addition of a third-row seat. The Commander was a sizable SUV with notable ground clearance, especially in models equipped with the Quadra-Drive II system. The seats in the second and third rows could be folded flat to increase cargo room, making the interior surprisingly adaptable.

Three different engine options were available for the Commander during its manufacturing run: a 3.7L V6, a 4.7L V8, and a 5.7L HEMI V8 engine. These engines had variable power outputs that were appropriate for various driving conditions. The Commander was equipped with a five-speed automatic transmission and offered rear-wheel drive as standard, with four-wheel drive systems available. They also came in a number of trim levels, including the Commander Limited, which included upscale amenities including dual-zone climate control, leather upholstery, and a 5.7L HEMI engine as an option.
