The Dodge Caliber was a compact crossover hatchback manufactured by Chrysler from 2006 to 2012. It replaced the Dodge Neon and marked Dodge's entry into the compact vehicle market. The Caliber, like the Jeep Compass and Jeep Patriot, was constructed on the Chrysler PM/MK chassis. With its strong stance, crosshair grille, and coupe-like profile, the exterior design combined parts of a hatchback and an SUV to create a distinctive visual identity in the small car market. The interior prioritized versatility and functionality, featuring a roomy cabin with flexible seating arrangements. Innovative features included the Chill Zone beverage storage compartment, illuminated cup holders, and an optional premium audio system with speakers that could unfold from the tailgate for outdoor use.
Engine options for the Caliber included 2.0L I4, 1.8L I4, 2.4L I4, 2.0L and 2.2L Diesel, and 2.0L and 2.2L Diesel in international markets. There were three different types of transmissions, automatic, CVT, and manual. The Caliber was targeted at young buyers and small families seeking a versatile, stylish, and affordable compact car with crossover appeal. Production ended in 2012, paving the way for the introduction of the Dodge Dart as its successor in 2013.
